The Buonaserstübli is a comfortable room for à la carte dining, as well as for seating a group of 14 to 18 people who would like to dine together around a large table. Combining this room with the Wystübli is very popular for parties and wedding banquets (22 to 50 people).

The Wystübli, our smallest room located next to the entrance, is the ideal dining room for six to twelve people. The 300-year-old tiled stove provides for a comfortable atmosphere. The Wystübli can be combined with the Buonaserstübli into one room, which is excellent for holding parties or banquets. By opening the room divider, the open space can seat between 22 to 55 guests.

A passion for hospitality

For 19 years, we have successfully run our own restaurant “Wirtshaus zur Sonne” in Ballwil. In 2000, we were awarded the 15. Gault Millau point, which we have maintained until today. For 2010, we have been greeting our guests in the Restaurant Wildenmann in Buonas on the beautiful lake of Zug.

Our team combines traditional with modern, delighting both young and old alike. We would be happy to serve you in an intimate setting within our collegial working climate where the highest quality and standards come first.

The history of our house

Documentation shows that the Wildenmann tavern was first mentioned in 1426 as the “Wirty zu Buonas”. It was a property of the lords of Hertenstein who at the time ruled from the Buonas castle.

The current restaurant was built in 1708. The “Wildenmann” is the heraldic supporter of the Lucerne coat of arms. Until 1782, the lords of Hertenstein, who were in service for Lucerne, owned the estate. This was always a thorn in the side of the lords of Zug, as after all, the property was located within the territory of the sovereignty of Zug. Constant arguments between Zug and Hertenstein resulted, in which the ownership of the house was disputed.

The name “Wildenmann” was first mentioned in 1813 as the “Taverne zum Wilden Mann”. However, due to the house’s history, it is to be assumed that the “Wildenmann” name dates back even further than that. Until 1959, the Wildenmann contained the residents’ registration office and the office in which municipal assemblies were held. The Wildenmann has up until today been in private ownership. The current owner acquired the property in 2004. In the meantime, the house has been renovated both inside and out.

A wonderful find from the archives: our inn was once on a postcard. If you look closely, you will discover that the postcard dates back to 1907.
